We make every effort to ensure that our available animals are placed on our website. Due to the timing of animal availability, photographers and web managers, there are always more dogs and cats currently available at the shelter than shown here. So, please always feel free to give us a call to learn about other pets available for adoption. Animal meet and greet appointments are available between Monday – Saturdays, Noon and 7:00 pm. Please contact the front desk to schedule an appointment. Please note we do not allow shelter “walkthroughs” and appointments for meet and greets are required.
We offer a free pet listing service to families who are seeking new homes for their pets in order to avoid surrendering their companions to a shelter. Check out the Rehoming Gallery and welcome home your next best friend!
How to Adopt
Finding your new best friend at the Roanoke Valley SPCA
You have an empty spot in your heart and home that only a pet can fill. Maybe you’ve visited the Animal Gallery on the Roanoke Valley SPCA website or seen some of our pets posted on Petfinder.com or other websites. Because many pets do not stay at the shelter long enough to have their photo taken and be placed on the website, you will find more available pets at the facility than online. So, what’s the next step to finding the perfect pet for your home?
Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animal while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. When adopted, each cat and dog will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and received all age appropriate vaccinations.
You have made the decision on which dog or cat will be your new best friend! Now you will need to fill out an adoption application. Complete our online Adoption Application. Adopters must be 18 years of age or older and provide the Roanoke Valley SPCA with photo identification showing current address. Adoption fees may be paid by cash, debit, or credit card (VISA or MasterCard). Please note that applications must be completed and an appointment scheduled prior to coming to the shelter.
