We make every effort to ensure that our available animals are placed on our website. Due to the timing of animal availability, photographers and web managers, there are always more dogs and cats currently available at the shelter than shown here. Please visit the shelter between Noon and 6:00 pm to see all available pets looking for their forever homes.
How to Adopt
Finding your new best friend at the Roanoke Valley SPCA
You have an empty spot in your heart and home that only a pet can fill. Maybe you’ve visited the Animal Gallery on the Roanoke Valley SPCA website or seen some of our pets posted on Petfinder.com or other websites. Because many pets do not stay at the shelter long enough to have their photo taken and be placed on the website, you will find more available pets at the facility than online. So, what’s the next step to finding the perfect pet for your home?
Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animal while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. When adopted, each cat and dog will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and received all age appropriate vaccinations.
You have made the decision on which dog or cat will be your new best friend! Now you will need to fill out an adoption application. The application can be printed, completed, and brought to the shelter before you come in to meet your new best friend, or you can complete the application at the shelter. Adopters must be 18 years of age or older and provide the Roanoke Valley SPCA with photo identification showing current address. Adoption fees may be paid by cash, debit, or credit card (VISA or MasterCard). Please note that with the exception of animals returning from foster, we do not take applications in advance of the potential adopters arrival at the shelter.
