The paperwork

At many animal shelters, including ours, we use an open adoption process, which means we focus on having a conversation with you to help find the best match for both you and the animal. Instead of a long application or strict checklist, we’ll talk with you about your lifestyle, home environment, and what you’re looking for in a pet. Our goal is to make the process friendly, supportive, and centered around building a happy, lasting relationship between you and your new furry friend.

We do need a bit of information to process your adoption contract so now it’s time to fill out an adoption questionnaire. The PDF in English or the PDF in Spanish can be printed, filled out, and brought to the shelter before you come in to meet your new best friend.  Or you can complete the  complete the information online or shelter when you arrive for your appointment.

Adopters must be 18 years of age or older and provide the Roanoke Valley SPCA with photo identification showing current address. Adoption fees may be paid by cash, debit or credit card (VISA or MasterCard).

Our Adoption Counselor will facilitate your meet and greet, review your questionnaire and if it is a good match, you may take your new pet home after completing the contract and paying the adoption fee.
