Pet Rehoming

Our primary goal is to keep pets and people together but we recognize that there are circumstances that owner’s face that necessitate a pet be rehomed.  Sometimes, owners prefer to rehome pets themselves and sometimes pets do not do well in a shelter environment.  Therefore, we offer a free rehoming service available for guardians who are unable to continue caring for their pets but who want to manage their pets’ placements with other responsible, loving guardians.  This service is available for pets in the following areas:  Alleghany, Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Montgomery, and Roanoke Counties as well as the city of Salem and town of Vinton.  Owners outside of this area are encouraged to list their pet on Rehome by Adopt a Pet, a national rehoming site.

All information contained in the pets’ descriptions on this rehoming page has been provided by their current guardians. The Roanoke Valley SPCA does not verify the accuracy of the information provided. It is the responsibility of the individuals who express interest in a particular pet listed on this page to obtain and verify information about the pet’s history.

Looking to adopt a pet being rehomed?

We hope you’ll meet your match in these pets who are available for adoption! The pets listed below are being rehomed directly by members of our community, and are not at our adoption center.

If you would like to meet a pet listed on our rehoming page, please make arrangements directly with the guardian listed on the pet’s profile. Potential adopters are responsible for communicating with the pet’s guardian to acquire veterinary records, document transfer of ownership and other necessary information.  As with any online communication and transaction, we encourage you to be safe and consider meeting in a well traveled public location.  Many police stations offer camera monitored areas of their parking lots for internet transactions.
