Hi there! I’m Comet. I am an orange and white, mixed breed dog. I am about three years old and weigh 24 lbs. I am neutered, micro chipped, and up to date on all my shots. My adoption fee is $99.
I have been with the nice folks at the Roanoke Valley SPCA for a while now because they have been helping me work through some of my fears. New people make me nervous. I really want to find my forever person, but it takes me some time to gain trust. I need to go to a home that is quiet, with no kids, and has a predictable routine so that I can feel safe and comfortable. I usually don’t mind other dogs, but I’ll probably be nervous in my new home for a while, so other animals might just add more stress. I would love to be with someone active. Going for walks is my favorite activity! And, to be honest, I put on a little bit of quarantine weight, so I could use some help to work that off.
The Roanoke Valley SPCA has me set up for a “foster to adopt.” This means that my forever family and I will get some extra support while I adjust to my new surroundings. The Roanoke Valley SPCA will set up meetings with my new family and a certified applied animal behaviorist, and there will be regular check-ins from the Roanoke Valley SPCA’s Canine Foster, Intake, and Enrichment Coordinator because they can give more information about my behavior and needs.
If you are an active person with a quiet home, and you are able to dedicate time to make me feel comfortable, then I am your guy. I may need to meet you a few times before I go with you to my new home, but once I get comfortable, I am sweet, affectionate, and the perfect hiking partner!
In response to the social distancing recommendations from the CDC and WHO, the Roanoke Valley SPCA is modifying our adoption procedures. With these new restrictions, we do our best to be as fair as possible. Pets are adopted on a first come basis. Our challenge is to find homes for the pets in our care as quickly as possible so we can help other pets in need. Unfortunately, we are unable to hold pets nor guarantee a pet will be available at the time of your appointment, but we do promise to call you if a pet is adopted prior to your appointment.
If you are interested in adopting me, please download and complete an RVSPCA Adoption Application 2020. Email or fax to 540-342-6730 your application and a copy of your picture ID to our adoption staff. Once they receive it, our adoption staff will give you a call to discuss Comet’s history and schedule a meet and greet.
Call 540-339-9247 Monday – Saturday between Noon and 7 pm to speak with an adoption counselor for more information.
