In preparation for their current hockey season, the Rail Yard Dawgs came to volunteer at the Roanoke Valley SPCA, and they brought their energy, enthusiasm, and big hearts to help our community’s pets. The theme for the day? “Dawgs Helping Dogs…and Cats.”
During their visit, the team rolled up their sleeves and helped prepare food for two of our most important programs: the Emergency Pet Food Pantry and Dot’s Drive Thru.
Dot’s Drive Thru
Dot’s Drive Thru is a vital program that ensures families in our community never have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. In FY25, Dot’s Drive Thru helped 3,398 dogs and cats, providing 19,307 pounds of dry food and 5,137 cans of wet food to pets in need. Every bag and can prepared by volunteers like the Rail Yard Dawgs goes directly into the hands (and bowls) of pets whose families rely on this support.
Emergency Pet Food Pantry
Our Emergency Pet Food Pantry provides ongoing assistance to families facing temporary financial hardships. In FY25 alone, the pantry distributed 6,107 pounds of dry food and 2,920 cans of wet food, helping 1,382 pets stay fed, healthy, and happy. The pantry ensures that pets can remain in their homes, rather than being surrendered due to financial challenges.
How You Can Help
Volunteers like the Rail Yard Dawgs make a huge difference in our operations, but we also rely on the generosity of donors to keep these critical programs running. This Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2025, you can make a real impact for pets in need by supporting the Roanoke Valley SPCA’s Emergency Pet Food Pantry and Dot’s Drive Thru.
Every donation helps us purchase and distribute food to dogs and cats who might otherwise go hungry. Your support ensures that families in our community can keep their pets safe, healthy, and loved.
The Rail Yard Dawgs showed us just how much love and effort can do for our community’s pets. With your help, we can continue providing lifesaving support through programs like Dot’s Drive Thru and the Emergency Pet Food Pantry — ensuring that every dog and cat in Roanoke has the food and care they deserve.
