With temperature plummeting, pets left outside in extreme temperatures, especially without food or shelter, are at risk of hypothermia, frostbite and even death. Just a few days ago on New Year’s day, a dog was found dead after a night in freezing temperatures. If you see a pet left outside, take note of as many details as you can. Date, time, exact location, type of animal(s) involved and even photos or videos can help save the animal. Contact your local animal control agency or county sheriff’s office and present your complaint and notes. For Roanoke County call (540) 777-8606, Roanoke City call 540-853-2211, and Salem call 540-375-3038. Please use these phone numbers as your first point of contact, but if the situation is an emergency, you can always call 9-1-1. Please be the voice of the animals!
