About Albee

**Meet Albee!**

Albee is an almost 4-year-old small-to-medium mixed breed with the sweetest, most affectionate personality. He absolutely loves people and thrives on being close to those around him. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who wants to be by your side, cuddle up after a long day, and join you on daily adventures, Albee is your match.

He is crate trained, very smart, and does best with structure, routine, and regular exercise. Albee loves being outdoors and has plenty of energy, so he would thrive in a home that can provide daily walks, and are up for outdoor adventures. Because he is both athletic and eager to engage, he may also really enjoy activities like agility training or other enrichment-based exercise. After he has had the chance to get his energy out, he settles in nicely indoors and loves to be near his people.

Albee is continuing to build confidence and skills on the leash and can become very enthusiastic about new sights, sounds, and other activity when out in public. Because of his strong prey drive and big personality, he may do best as an only dog or with a very compatible dog companion.

Albee is deeply loved, and the hope is to find a home where he can truly thrive with plenty of movement, structure, and love.

Background Information

Where did you get this animal: Pittsylvania County SPCA
Why rehoming: I love Albee deeply, and this decision comes from wanting the very best quality of life for him. I am preparing to move into a smaller living space, and with working two time-consuming jobs, I know that this living situation will not be able to provide the level of space, exercise, structure, and one-on-one attention that he truly needs. Albee is a high-energy, deeply people-oriented dog who thrives with daily activity, consistency, and companionship. My hope is to find him a home that can better match his needs and give him the movement, engagement, and love that will allow him to truly thrive.

Behavioral Concerns: Albee is a loving, high-energy dog who can become easily overstimulated by strong external stimuli, including other dogs, wildlife, and busy public environments. He has strong responses to these triggers and is still building skills with leash walking, as he can pull significantly when excited or overstimulated. He also experiences separation anxiety and does best with structure, consistency, and support during transitions or when left alone. His crate is a space where he feels safe and comfortable, and he settles well there. Highly stimulating settings such as dog parks can be difficult for him, as he may struggle with other dogs’ energy levels. Albee is athletic and has previously escaped the yard, so he would do best in a secure environment with close supervision outdoors. He would thrive with an adopter who can provide continued training support, regular exercise, and a calm, structured routine.
Afraid of: Albee can be sensitive to certain sounds and care routines. He is fearful of nail trims, the vacuum, and unexpected loud noises, especially when he cannot identify where the sound is coming from. Vet visits can be hit or miss, as he may become very anxious in that environment. He has a prescription for trazodone that can be used to help him feel more comfortable during nail trims, vet visits, or other high-stress situations.
Games like to play: Albee loves chasing a ball and gets so excited when it is thrown. He also loves tug-of-war, zoomie romps, and playful rough-and-tumble moments. He enjoys being active and loves outdoor adventures, walks, and time to run around and get his energy out. Albee is also incredibly curious and loves rooting around, exploring toys and blankets, and investigating anything interesting in his environment. He enjoys puzzle toys, enrichment games, and interactive play that lets him use both his mind and his energy. Most of all, Albee loves being close to people and soaking up affection.
