About Hershey Franklin
Hershey is a 6-year-old Lab/Golden Retriever/Pit mix with a huge personality packed into her 29-pound frame. She’s spayed, up to date on vaccines, and full of love, enthusiasm, and affection. Hershey greets the people she loves with full-body tail wags, hugs, and plenty of kisses — she truly loves being part of the action and thrives on attention and companionship.
She’s playful, curious, smart, and always ready for an adventure. Hershey loves car rides, hikes, exploring new smells, chew toys, and spending quality time with her people. She has a medium-to-high energy level and would do best with an active family or person who enjoys including their dog in daily life.
Hershey is well trained with a strong foundation. She is house trained, crate trained, and knows many commands including sit, stay, down, off, hold, relax, up, come, speak, leave it, and shh. She walks very nicely on a leash and enjoys getting out to explore. During storms or loud noises, she prefers cozy enclosed spaces like a bathroom or closet where she feels safe and reassured.
Hershey loves meeting people and is friendly with strangers, though she can bark at outside noises or when excited. She generally does well with other dogs but may bark during first introductions because she gets excited, not aggressive. Because she was attacked by another dog in the past, slow and thoughtful introductions are important. She has lived with cats and tends to be more cautious than confrontational, though she has recently shown some reactivity toward them. She’s friendly with children but can be jumpy and overly affectionate, so older or dog-savvy kids would likely be the best fit.
Hershey has sensitive skin during warmer months, which is currently managed with diet and occasional Benadryl. She would thrive in a calm, loving home where she can feel secure, get plenty of attention and exercise, and continue building confidence. Due to increasing tension between dogs in her current home, the difficult decision has been made to find Hershey a new environment where both dogs can feel safe and relaxed. This choice comes from love and a desire to give her the happiest, most stable future possible.
If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, adventure-loving companion with a joyful spirit and so much love to give, Hershey may be your perfect match.
