Kay is an Adoption Counselor with the Roanoke Valley SPCA. In this role, Kay looks after all aspects of adoption, including guidance in picking the best match for potential families and their lifestyles, educating the public on the importance of adoption and rescuing from shelters, and helping keep animals and people together.

Kay graduated from Glenvar High School with a dream of having a career with animals. She worked for a short period of time as a veterinary assistant at Salem Animal Hospital learning the basics of veterinary medicine, vaccination administration and animal care while still in high school. Before joining the Roanoke Valley SPCA in November 2022, Kay worked for 7 years in the food industry as a waitress waiting to find the perfect job to make her dream career of working with animals come true.

Kay has two furbabies including a calico manx named Bella who is 16 years old. Bella is so fluffy, she looks like a stuffed animal. She loves to cuddle and boss around Moo-Moo. Moo-Moo is a young tan and white American bulldog that Kay recently adopted from our the Roanoke Valley SPCA. When Moo-Moo came into the shelter Kay knew that she HAD to have her. Moo-Moo was under socialized and afraid of absolutely everything and every noise. Kay knew that she needed a forever home fast. As soon as she was adopted, Moo-Moo’s cute stubborn ways turned into her spoiled wild side. Moo-Moo was Kay’s first ever shelter dog adoption and has taught her a lot. Moo-Moo is now full of adventure and energy, LOTS of energy! Her personality has bloomed and she has become the best friend and the best sidekick that Kay could ever ask for!

Originally, Kay began working for the Roanoke Valley SPCA simply because she loves animals. However, now she says that this job has broadened her knowledge of shelters, pet retention, animal care and so much more and has become a therapy safe haven, and most importantly, an educational experience. Kay can be reached at 540-339-9247 or by email.
