Volunteering at the Roanoke Valley SPCA is “heart” work!
There are many ways to help the animals at the Roanoke Valley SPCA, both in and out of the shelter.
Steps to Becoming a Volunteer
Step 1: Complete the Volunteer Application. Volunteer must be 16 years of age. Volunteers 15 years and younger must apply with a parent or legal guardian. Family volunteer opportunities are available.
Step 2: Pay a one-time, non-refundable $15 volunteer registration fee. This covers the cost of the volunteer t-shirt, materials, and insurance. Volunteer t-shirts are awarded after completion of orientation and 4 hours of volunteer work. This fee helps to ensure that the vast majority of our funding is spent directly on animal care. Please understand that your volunteer fee is non-refundable and will be considered a contribution to the shelter should you decide to forgo volunteering.
Step 3: Once your application and fee have been submitted, you will receive an invitation to register for New Volunteer Orientation. We now offer New Volunteer Orientation, Part 1 online, making it easier to get started. If online orientation is not an option for you, or if you have any questions about the volunteer process, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Sarah Anglim, via email or at 540-339-9503 to schedule an in-house orientation. Registration is required to attend Volunteer Orientation.
Step 4: Schedule and attend all additional training classes as required for specific activities.
Step 5: Commit to a minimum of 4 hours a month for at least 6 months.
For more information email Sarah Anglim or call 540-339-9503.
